Have you ever returned home from a few days away and within 5 minutes felt like it was all just a dream? That’s exactly what happened when we returned home from our relaxing stay at Swallow Barn because surely, a place that beautiful, tranquil and idyllic can’t possibly be found in the UK? Well, in fact, it can, because Swallow Barn is that faultless little slice of countryside perfection that you will not want to leave behind!
We were lucky enough to be invited to stay at Swallow Barn, as part of a collaboration with Visit Bath. We took the very long drive down from Norwich (around 5 hours!) on a Monday morning and couldn’t believe our luck when we arrived at the stunning location just outside the market town of Frome, Somerset.
Upon arrival we were greeted by our wonderful host Penny who immediately made us feel welcome and showed us to our guest room. We were met with the most delightful aroma of lavender and freshly picked flowers as we entered our gorgeously cosy country-style room, complete with everything we needed from hot drinks facilities to cute little jars of sweets (much to Lilah’s delight!). Lilah was even surprised with a basket of books and activities that Penny had kindly compiled for her, which we all thought was such a lovely touch.
After we had settled into our room, Penny invited us for freshly baked scones and tea in the garden room. We were completely blown away by this beautiful room complete with swinging egg chair, lounge area, dining table and stunning views overlooking the meadows.
We spent each morning in this glorious room where we arrived straight from our beds adorned with the cosy dressing gowns provided. It was such a luxury being able to walk out into the fresh country air first thing, without a scrap of make-up on! Penny would then bring us the most delicious breakfast hamper which we unpacked excitedly with grumbling bellies, then gobbled down in silence while appreciating the stillness of the countryside and those incredible views.
Swallow barn is in such a fantastic location, just 2 miles away from the market town of Frome and 10 miles from Bath. We managed to spend sufficient time in both during our two-night stay and loved them both equally!
Our first evening was enjoyed strolling the picturesque streets of Frome, followed by a tasty dinner at The Talbot Inn as recommended by Penny. If you choose to spend a cosy evening relaxing at Swallow Barn, there is a firepit available to use as well as blankets and games! We spent our final day exploring Bath taking hundreds of photos and eating lots of Gelato (blog post coming soon on that!).
We had such a wonderfully relaxing stay at Swallow Barn and it really has set the bar high for our future getaways. Penny was the perfect host and all the extra little thoughtful touches like fresh flower posies and children’s activity sheets in our breakfast hampers made our stay so special and one we will always remember fondly.
